BJP Leader Ashim Das Arrested in ₹7.77 Crore Fake Work Order Scam

In a significant development, Ashim Das, a local BJP leader and President of the SC Morcha, was arrested in connection with a large-scale scam involving the issuance of fake work orders. Das, along with his accomplices, allegedly defrauded several businesses, causing losses amounting to Rs7.77 crores.

The scam revolved around the creation of fake work orders in the names of prominent bodies such as Development Councils and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Das and his team used forged documents and impersonated officials to convince businesses to make large payments.

Among the victims were Manpho Exports, which was swindled of Rs3.77 crore, and Prontiach IT, which lost Rs4 crore. The businesses were duped into believing that they had secured legitimate contracts through these fake work orders.

The Assam Crime Branch successfully tracked down and arrested Ashim Das. Alongside him, Birinchi Borkotoky, a retired officer who had posed as a fake Joint Secretary, was also taken into custody. Both are now facing charges related to fraud, impersonation, and forgery.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities looking into the full extent of the fraud and whether other individuals were involved. The arrests are expected to lead to more revelations in this elaborate scam that targeted businesses both inside and outside Assam.
