Two men from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, wanted for their involvement in a Rs 3.5 lakh armed robbery at a ‘Jansewa Kendra’ in Raipur were arrested after a brief police encounter on Sunday.
According to police, Sahil Yunus (22) and Kamil (50) were apprehended after a tip-off led to their location. The suspects were traveling from Rishikesh to Dehradun on a scooter when police stopped them at a checkpost. Instead of complying, the suspects fled into a nearby forest, triggering a police chase.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects fired at the officers, prompting police to retaliate, injuring Kamil in the leg and hand. The two were then surrounded and arrested. Kamil was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, while Sahil was sent to jail.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and four live cartridges from the suspects. Investigations revealed that Dilshad, the prime accused arrested earlier, had masterminded the robbery after learning about the victim, Manjit’s loan business. Dilshad disclosed that Yunus and Kamil were on their way to Dehradun to collect their share of the loot, which was Rs 70,000, not the Rs 3.5 lakh mentioned by the complainant.
The case is still under investigation as police gather further details about the robbery and the suspects’ involvement in other crimes.
