Bijayalakshmi Rout Held in Rs62.5 Lakh Railway Job Scam

In a major breakthrough, Berhampur Sadar Police arrested Bijayalakshmi Rout, the alleged mastermind behind a large-scale railway job fraud, on July 13, 2025, in Bhubaneswar.

The case, registered as Sadar PS Case No. 303 on July 11, 2025, was launched after S. Krushna Chandra Dora filed a complaint claiming he and four others were defrauded of Rs62.5 lakh with the promise of jobs in Indian Railways.

The scam began on March 18, 2023, when A. Bighneswar Rao Dora approached the victims at Digapahandi bus stand, promising jobs through his supposed connections. Victims were later introduced to Samarjeet Rout (alias Basanta Singh) and Subhalaxmi Rout, who posed as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE).

To gain trust, Samarjeet displayed fake appointment letters, emails, and photos with railway officials. The group collected the money at Baramunda bus stand, promising training in Kolkata. The victims were even subjected to a sham medical test at B.R. Singh Hospital, Sealdah, followed by fraudulent call letters and approval emails.

Suspicions arose after inconsistencies in documents and the accused becoming unresponsive. When confronted in Kolkata, Samarjeet shockingly asked Dora to bring in more candidates, fully exposing the scam.

Police action followed swiftly. Under the leadership of Inspector Rama Subramanian Pradhan, Bighneswar Rao Dora was arrested on July 11, followed by Subhalaxmi Rout on July 13, who had her Axis and HDFC bank passbooks seized.

Bijayalakshmi Rout, linked to prior fraud cases at Tamando, Capital, and Infocity Police Stations, was forwarded to court on July 13. The case is still under investigation as authorities work to trace the full extent of the fake recruitment network and ensure justice for the victims.
