Bihar Man Arrested in Attempted Jewellery Shop Robbery in Odisha

A 25-year-old man from Bihar was arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Singiri market, located under the jurisdiction of Aul police on Wednesday.

The accused, Lalan Binda, hailing from Kakrauri village in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, was caught by locals on Tuesday night while attempting to drill through the shop’s wall. While his associates managed to escape, Binda was apprehended after falling into a pond during a chase.

According to Sabyasachi Satapathy, the IIC of Aul Police Station, authorities recovered two revolvers, an axe, three sharp weapons, and a screw from the arrested man. Police suspect the gang’s involvement in a similar robbery attempt at a jewellery showroom in Jagatsinghpur on December 31, 2024, where criminals gained access by drilling through the wall.

“We believe the criminals had detailed knowledge of the area, which suggests possible local involvement,” Satapathy added. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the heist.

This latest arrest comes after the January robbery attempt by three criminals from Bihar that tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a customer.
