Bexar County Deputy Arrested for DWI After Crash in San Antonio
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A deputy with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office was arrested over the weekend on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office confirmed.
21-year-old Ayden Zavala was apprehended by San Antonio police around 2 a.m. on Sunday after he crashed his vehicle into a parked car and a light pole in the 500 block of East Commerce Street.
Zavala, a three-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, is the seventh deputy arrested this year, and the second to face DWI charges. He has been assigned to the detention bureau since joining the department in August 2021.
Following his arrest, Zavala was placed on unpaid administrative leave and issued a notice of proposed dismissal. The sheriff’s office is conducting its own investigation while awaiting the outcome of the San Antonio Police Department’s criminal case.
