TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) — A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly drive-by shooting that killed one person and injured another in Texarkana last month.
On June 2, the Texarkana Texas Police Department announced the arrest of Benjamin Brem, 24, in Houston for the May 10 shooting death of Jaylen Betts, 21. The incident happened during the early morning hours in the 1300 block of Carroll Street, where police responded to reports of multiple shots fired.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Betts inside a home, fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A 52-year-old man who was also at the house sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Police say the incident involved a drive-by shooting with more than 50 rounds fired into the residence. It marked the first homicide of the year in Texarkana, Texas.
Brem faces charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and evading arrest. He is expected to be extradited to Texarkana within the next few days and booked into the Bi-State Jail.
