Bengal STF Seizes Rs 2.5 Crore in Brown Sugar and Banned Substances

The Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has successfully recovered brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 crore in a series of three raids conducted around Kolkata, Burdwan, and Murshidabad. On Tuesday evening, a team apprehended Ajit Kumar Das, a 49-year-old resident of Budbud, Bardhaman, near the Panagarh underpass, seizing 1.1 kg of brown sugar in the process.

In another raid near Dakbanglow More in the Shamserganj police jurisdiction of Murshidabad, the STF apprehended three members of an inter-state narcotics smuggling gang, recovering 1.4 kg of brown sugar. Additionally, the operation netted banned Phensedyl bottles valued at Rs 2 crore.

The STF also intercepted a vehicle in Amdanga, where contraband cannabis (ganja) was discovered concealed in the rear section. The alleged kingpin, Nur Islam Miah, 55, from Dinhata in Coochbehar, was arrested during this operation.

In a separate incident, the STF arrested Rahul Sharma, a key suspect in a major fraud linked to the Shine City Infra Project, in Gomtinagar. Sharma, who was wanted with a reward of Rs 50,000, is part of a gang accused of defrauding investors. The company’s CMD, Rashid Naseem, remains at large with a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his capture.

Furthermore, the Uttarakhand police’s STF will investigate three recent railway sabotage incidents that have raised safety concerns. These incidents involved a metal cable placed on tracks in Dehradun, an LPG cylinder found on tracks in Haridwar, and a metal pole discovered in US Nagar. Authorities are ramping up vigilance and verifying the identities of residents living near the railway tracks.

Lastly, the Uttarakhand STF has arrested Uday, a 44-year-old man from Visakhapatnam, who was wanted for his involvement in a 2004 bank robbery in Haridwar. Uday, who had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was the last member of his gang at large, having evaded capture for years while living under an assumed identity and selling clothes at a roadside stall.
