Bengal-Based Agent Arrested for Fake Greece Visa Scam at IGI Airport

The IGI Airport Police have arrested Sanjeev Kumar Rout (37), a Bengal-based agent, for arranging a fake Greece visa for an Indian passenger. The case came to light when Kanwaljeet Singh (23) from Amritsar was caught during an immigration check at IGI Airport while attempting to travel to Bangkok on the night of November 20-21, 2024.

Officials detected tampering on Singh’s passport, which revealed a forged Greece visa. Singh confessed that he had paid agent Rahul and his associate, Gurshant Singh, Rs 1 lakh to facilitate his travel to Greece. However, when the fake visa was discovered, the agents advised him to travel to Thailand instead.

After the arrests of Rahul and Gurshant Singh, they revealed Rout’s involvement in the scam. A police team led by Inspector Sushil Goyal apprehended Rout in Delhi. He admitted to running a fake visa racket since relocating to West Bengal in 2014.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to identify other agents involved and trace financial connections to similar frauds. Police have urged travellers to use authorized agencies for visa processing and warned against fraudulent offers.
