Bathinda Police Arrest 6, Including 2 Indian Army Personnel, After Encounter

Bathinda Police have arrested six individuals, including two who claim to be serving in the Indian Army, following a brief encounter. The suspects were wanted for a snatching case where they used an AK-47 assault rifle, reportedly stolen from an Indian Army unit in Jammu.

According to the police, on the evening of March 11, six individuals arrived at the Green Hotel in Bhucho, near Bathinda. Three of them entered the hotel and forcibly snatched Rs 7,000 from the hotel owner, Luv Kumar. An FIR was filed, and the police began investigating the crime.

On March 14, the police received a tip-off about the suspects’ location on the Bathinda-Bhucho road. Acting on this information, a police team approached the area. When the officers attempted to stop the suspects’ vehicle, one of them fired a gunshot at the police, hitting the vehicle. In response, the police fired two shots, one of which struck Satwant, one of the suspects, in the leg. The police successfully apprehended all six individuals.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Satwant (injured), Arshdeep, Hargun, Arsh, Sunil, and Gurdeep. Sunil and Gurdeep claimed to be Indian Army personnel, with Sunil alleging that he had stolen the AK-47 rifle and a vehicle from his post in Jammu before taking leave. The police are yet to verify the army connections of the suspects, and an inquiry regarding the stolen weapon is underway.
