Barbara Host Banned for Life from Practicing in B.C.

A woman who worked as a dental hygienist in Langley, B.C., for four years without proper registration has agreed to quit the profession and is permanently banned from applying to practice again.

Barbara Host faced disciplinary action from the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) following this latest incident, marking her second discipline for unregistered practice. In 2008, she was investigated for practicing as a hygienist without being registered with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia, and at that time, she promised not to repeat the misconduct.

From 2014 to 2023, Host was listed as a non-practicing hygienist with the BCCOHP. However, a complaint from a patient on October 26, 2023, revealed that Host had served as her hygienist while unqualified to practice. The college discovered that she had been providing services from September 2019 until October 2023, misrepresenting her status to her employer and working without professional liability insurance.

The consent agreement does not disclose the name of the dental practice where Host was employed. As part of the agreement, she resigned from the BCCOHP’s register and agreed never to seek reinstatement in British Columbia. Host signed the agreement on April 25.
