: Two young men have been arrested for allegedly cheating a retired government employee of Rs14 lakh by posing as cybercrime officials and threatening him with a fake digital arrest, Delhi Police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Banshi Lal and Prem Kumar, both 20 years old and currently pursuing their graduation, were arrested following a complaint from Kailash Kumar Meena (57).
According to a senior police official, Meena received a video call from someone claiming to be a cybercrime officer from Mumbai. The caller falsely accused him of being involved in an online fraud case and warned that a police team was on its way to arrest him.
Fearing arrest, the complainant transferred Rs14 lakh to a bank account provided by the caller.
A case was registered on April 22 at the North Cyber Police Station, and a thorough investigation followed. Investigators traced the suspects by analyzing call records, money trails, and digital access logs.
Despite frequently changing their locations to avoid arrest, continuous mobile surveillance eventually led authorities to Barmer, Rajasthan, where both men were apprehended.
