Bangladeshi Woman Sahana Sadique Arrested in Marriage Scam

Police in West Bengal arrested Sahana Sadique, a 32-year-old Bangladeshi woman, for allegedly exploiting medical visas to marry Indian men, later filing domestic violence cases to extort money from them.

Sadique, who entered India six times in four years, reportedly conducted four unregistered marriages under false identities. She used these marriages to file domestic violence complaints against her husbands in Kolkata’s Rajarhat and New Town areas.

Sadique’s most recent marriage was in October 2024. When she approached the police, claiming that her husband had explicit photos of her and was threatening to release them, officers recognized a pattern. Upon further investigation, they discovered her past complaints and uncovered her alleged scam.

“While she was filing her complaint, we recognized her from previous cases. After checking her background, we found that she had lodged similar complaints before. She turned out to be a con-woman,” a senior officer told the Times of India.

This case mirrors an incident in Odisha, where Biranchi Narayan Nath, a 43-year-old man, was arrested for marrying multiple women across several states and blackmailing them with explicit videos. Nath’s victims were primarily women who were unmarried, widowed, or divorced.

Authorities have stated that similar scams involving fake marriages and blackmail are being reported across the country, with both local and foreign women targeting men for financial gain using false identities and fraudulent legal cases.
