In a significant breakthrough, Deoghar police arrested Baldev Rai (62) in connection with the bomb attack that killed Sanjay Kumar Das (52), the headmaster of Mahuadabar Middle School in Deoghar on February 13. Rai, a resident of Jamtara district, is suspected to have orchestrated the crime due to an ongoing land dispute with the victim.
According to Deputy SP Laxman Prasad, Rai hired goons to carry out the attack, which resulted in the tragic death of Sanjay Kumar Das, a known JMM supporter and influential figure in the area, as well as the representative of the teachers’ association.
The police have also recovered the motorcycle used by the assailants to escape the crime scene. Deputy SP Prasad stated that more arrests are likely as the investigation continues.
The local police department has faced criticism over the delay in solving the case, given the victim’s local prominence and political ties.
