In a swift and efficient operation, a team from Azara Police recovered stolen items within just nine hours of the crime being reported. The goods were traced to a scrapyard in Garchuk, and four individuals were arrested for their involvement in the theft.
The stolen items were originally taken from the Sri Sri Durga Mandir, Sabhaghar, which falls under the Azara Police Station’s jurisdiction. Those arrested include:
Sudhir Yadav (20) – Chandpur, UP
Bikash Yadav (20) – Bishungrh, Kannauj, UP
Raju Seikh (50) – Matifata, Dhubri, Assam
Mirjan (45) – Bogchara, Barpeta, Assam
In a related operation, police raided another scrapyard in Amingaon owned by Sakil Ahmed, a resident of No. 2 Bhelkar village in Kamrup district. More stolen materials were seized, and Sakil Ahmed was taken into custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
This isn’t the first crackdown in recent times. In an earlier operation, Guwahati Police arrested three individuals in connection with the theft of air conditioning units and copper pipes from the Basistha Press Club office on January 19.

Police recovered tools used for the burglary, including wrenches, a plier, and an electric cutter. The stolen items were found at a dump in Patarkuchi, and another individual, Ashma Khatun (55), was arrested for receiving the stolen property at her residence in Panjabari Bataghuli.
The Assam Police continue their efforts to clamp down on organized theft rings and illegal scrapyards operating across the region.
