Aurora Police Arrest Alberto Duran and Eric Spivey in Walgreens Oxycontin Robbery

A GPS tracking device hidden in stolen oxycontin helped Aurora Police track down and arrest two men after a robbery at a Walgreens store on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6:48 p.m. at the Walgreens located at 18620 E. Iliff Ave. near South Tower Road.

According to Aurora Police, the suspects stole approximately $5,000 worth of oxycontin during the robbery. Store employees had hidden a SIERRA GPS tracking device within the stolen drugs. After the robbery, Aurora 911 was alerted to the tracking device’s location, providing officers with real-time data on the suspects’ whereabouts.

The robbers, later identified as Alberto Duran and Eric Jermaine Spivey, were tracked to a second Walgreens location at East Smoky Hill Road and South Aurora Parkway. When officers arrived, they spotted the two men fleeing the scene. A brief foot chase ensued, leading to their arrest.

During the pursuit, one officer was injured and was taken to the hospital, though details about the injury remain unclear. Police recovered a firearm and what they believe to be all of the stolen oxycontin in the vehicle linked to the robbery.

Duran and Spivey face multiple felony charges, including aggravated robbery, second-degree kidnapping, menacing with a deadly weapon, third-degree assault, and obstruction of a peace officer. Authorities continue to investigate the case as the two suspects are processed.
