Auburn Man Jacob Pendexter Arrested After Hours-Long Police Standoff

AUBURN, Maine — A man was arrested early Saturday morning after an hours-long police standoff at a residence in Auburn. The Auburn Police Department responded to a report of a man violating his pre-conviction bail conditions at a Snow Road address around 5:25 p.m. on Friday.

The suspect, 44-year-old Jacob Pendexter, of Auburn, had previously been arrested for domestic violence offenses and had active bail conditions that prohibited him from being at the residence and from having contact with the victim. Additionally, Pendexter had multiple felony warrants for domestic violence-related charges and kidnapping.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a female at the residence who denied that Pendexter was inside and refused to allow officers entry. However, a family member confirmed that Pendexter was hiding in the basement. Police then established a perimeter and closed off nearby roads, continuing efforts to make contact with Pendexter and the woman.

At approximately 2 a.m., the female exited the residence, but Pendexter remained inside. Officers continued attempts to communicate with him, and around 3:38 a.m., Pendexter emerged and was taken into custody without further incident.

Pendexter was arrested on outstanding warrants for domestic violence and kidnapping, as well as new charges for violating his conditions of release and creating a police standoff. He was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail and is being held without bail pending his appearance before a judge.
