MONROE, La. – A local attorney was arrested last week on drug charges after being found in a vehicle with a known narcotics trafficker.
According to authorities, law enforcement received a tip-off that Monterius D. Simpson, a wanted drug dealer with multiple arrest warrants, was traveling from Baton Rouge to Monroe. Officers set up along I-20 near the Bastrop exit and pulled over the vehicle on Wednesday.
Simpson, a well-known leader of a crack cocaine operation in Ouachita Parish, was taken into custody.
Attorney’s Arrest After False Statements
The front seat passenger, later identified as 33-year-old attorney Breshatta M. Davis, initially told officers she had picked up Simpson from a store in Monroe. However, police knew this was false, and after being read her Miranda Rights, Davis admitted she had traveled from Baton Rouge with Simpson, who smelled of marijuana.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found a Hydrocodone pill in Davis’ backpack and marijuana in the backseat. Davis claimed the pills were prescribed due to a previous auto accident and attempted to prove it via FaceTime by having someone at her Baton Rouge home show officers two prescription bottles—but neither contained Hydrocodone.
Authorities gave Davis 24 hours to provide a valid prescription. However, when they followed up with her attorney, they were informed that she did not have one.
Charges and Release
On Sunday, Davis was arrested for drug charges and permitting an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle.
Simpson was also arrested on charges of driving without a license, drug possession, and four counts of probation violation.
Davis has since posted bond and was released from the Ouachita Correctional Center.
