Astrid Schiller, a 55-year-old woman from Ontario, has been arrested in Saskatchewan on a warrant for child abduction after she took her three children and crossed into Manitoba. Schiller had been on the run for several months after abducting her children in December 2023.

On Wednesday, RCMP in Fort Qu’Appelle received information that Schiller and her children were in the community. Authorities tracked them down and arrested her on a warrant issued in Ontario for the abduction.

The incident began on June 16, 2024, when Schiller and her children were attempting to cross the U.S.-Canada border at the Boissevain Port of Entry. Although the children were initially taken into care, Schiller was released because the warrant did not extend into Manitoba. The following day, the children were reported missing again, and Schiller’s vehicle was found abandoned in Saskatchewan.

Schiller has now been transported back to Brandon, where she remains in custody. The charges against her have not yet been proven in court.

Meanwhile, the three children are being reunited with their family in Ontario, and RCMP continues to handle the case. Authorities are ensuring the safety and well-being of the children after their return.
