In a late-night raid on Monday, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police arrested Sona Miya, a drug peddler from Bongaigaon, Assam. The raid took place in the Navagraha Hills area of the city. Miya, 40, had been operating secretly in the city for the past year, staying in a rented room at KK Road in Navagraha Hills, owned by Vijay Singh.
STF Inspector Kapil Pathak led the operation, which resulted in the recovery of 214.81 grams of suspected heroin, packed in 16 soap box cases. The police also seized Rs 1,06,700 in cash and a mobile phone from Miya’s possession.
Miya is known to have been involved in drug trafficking within the city and is considered a notorious figure. Following his arrest, a case has been filed at the Latasil police station under relevant narcotic laws.
The STF has been actively fighting drug trafficking, having carried out over 150 successful operations since March last year. Their efforts have led to the recovery of significant quantities of narcotics, including 6.5 kilograms of heroin, 4000 kilograms of ganja, and fake Indian currency worth Rs 50.41 lakh.
