In a major operation against drug trafficking, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police successfully confiscated five kilograms of heroin, valued at Rs 39.75 lakh, in Champhai district. Acting on credible intelligence, the authorities launched the operation on Sunday, leading to the seizure in the General Area of Crossing Point III (Laipian Kai).
During the operation, police arrested a 52-year-old woman named Zingengmawii, who is believed to be involved with the heroin consignment. The seized narcotics and the arrested suspect were handed over to the Zokhawthar Police for further investigation.
The incident has triggered an ongoing inquiry aimed at uncovering possible networks involved in drug trafficking across the region. Earlier this year, Assam Rifles had also seized heroin worth Rs 75.60 lakh from Zokhawthar in Champhai district, arresting one individual.
In another successful operation on January 20, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Mizoram’s Hnahthial Police, seized 260 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 3.38 crore from Tuichang Bridge in Lawngtlai district. A resident of Champhai was arrested in connection with this smuggling case.
These actions highlight the continued efforts of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police to combat narcotics smuggling and prevent the spread of drug abuse across the state and India.
