Assam Police Seizes Narcotics Worth Rs 1 Crore in Cachar, Arrests Driver

In a major drug bust, Assam Police intercepted a vehicle carrying narcotics valued at Rs 1 crore during a special operation at the Digharkhal Toll Gate in Cachar district. The operation, based on specific intelligence, resulted in the seizure of 8,640 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup and 2 kg of ganja. The vehicle, en route from Guwahati to Aizawl, was intercepted under the jurisdiction of Kalain police station.

Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the arrest of Joylaldan Thanga, a 38-year-old resident of Aizawl, who was driving the intercepted vehicle. Both the contraband and the vehicle were confiscated by the authorities, and further investigation is currently underway to trace the larger network involved in the trafficking.

In a statement of appreciation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police force for their efforts in combating drug trafficking and making significant strides in controlling the spread of illegal substances.

This operation follows a successful raid in December, where the Special Task Force and Cachar district police jointly seized 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin in Silchar. During that operation, Sahil Ahmed Laskar was arrested while transporting the drugs on a motorcycle.
