In a significant operation, the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) busted a drug trafficking cartel on Saturday, arresting two individuals in connection with a large-scale drug haul. Authorities intercepted a heroin consignment valued at ₹6 crore that was being transported from Manipur’s Kangpokpi to Assam’s lower districts.
The operation, launched following a tip-off, led to the arrest of Murtaza Ahmed, alias Bhulu, in Amingaon, where he was traveling in a Tata Nexon. Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities found 49 soap boxes filled with 637 grams of heroin, with a street value of approximately ₹6 crore.
Further investigation revealed that Prasant Toppo, a truck driver from Dokmoka, had transported the drugs from Manipur. Toppo was subsequently arrested at a parking facility in Changsari in Kamrup District.
The arrests have highlighted a growing drug trafficking route between Manipur and Assam, with ongoing investigations into the cartel’s network.
