Assam Police Arrest Three for Counterfeit Currency in Guwahati

The Assam Police have arrested three individuals from Meghalaya in Guwahati’s Sundarpur area, seizing a bundle of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from their possession on Tuesday. Along with the counterfeit notes, police recovered four mobile phones and a stack of white paper believed to be used in the production of the fake currency.

Two of the arrested suspects have been identified as Ariven K Marwein, 31, and Shemboknongsiej, 37, both from the West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya. The third individual has yet to be identified.

According to police officials, the arrests were made following specific information from the Special Task Force (STF). An FIR will be lodged at the Dispur police station as part of the ongoing investigation.

This incident follows the recent arrest of three individuals involved in a counterfeit currency racket in Guwahati’s Khanapara area, where FICN worth Rs8.3 lakh and legitimate cash amounting to Rs1.28 lakh were seized. These arrests represent a significant step in the crackdown on counterfeit currency networks operating in the region.
