Assam Police Arrest Mahboob Alam in Rs. 6 Crore Yaba Drug Bust

In a significant drug bust, Assam police arrested Mahboob Alam on Thursday night in Silchar after seizing 18,000 Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 6 crore. The raid was part of a coordinated operation between the police, military, and Assam Rifles, based on precise intelligence.

The raid targeted the Kathal Road area in Silchar after intelligence indicated the movement of a smuggler carrying narcotics. Police intercepted a Pulsar motorcycle with registration number AS 10 E 3552. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the large consignment of Yaba tablets hidden in the motorcycle.

Mahboob Alam, a resident of Asimganj in Karimganj district, was arrested on the spot. He is believed to have been planning to distribute the seized drugs across Silchar. This seizure is another success in the ongoing crackdown on the drug trade in Assam.

The operation is part of a larger effort to combat drug trafficking in the state. Just last month, a similar operation in Cachar district led to the seizure of Yaba tablets worth Rs 12 crore and another arrest. The police continue to target trafficking networks operating across Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies and reiterated the government’s commitment to fighting drug abuse. He highlighted that the police, using credible intelligence, had intercepted additional Yaba tablets in Islamabad, leading to further arrests and seizures.

With the ongoing commitment of Assam’s police and security forces, these operations are crucial in the state’s mission to combat the drug trade and make Assam drug-free.
