In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the South Salmara Mankachar police arrested a drug peddler and seized a variety of narcotics during a raid at Kharuabandha OP in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district on Friday. The arrested individual has been identified as 38-year-old Nur Islam.
During the operation, authorities recovered 2.33 grams of suspected heroin contained in two plastic vials, 1,400 Yaba tablets hidden in seven plastic packets, 134 empty plastic vials commonly used for drug distribution, 21 aluminium foils, and a black smartphone.
The police have confirmed that Nur Islam has been involved in drug trafficking for several years. Upon investigating his mobile phone, officials discovered evidence linking his activities to cross-border drug smuggling with Bangladesh. The accused reportedly admitted to throwing contraband drugs over the border into Bangladesh.
The authorities conducted the seizure process under videographic documentation and in the presence of independent witnesses to ensure transparency. An FIR has been registered, and the legal procedures are underway. Police are continuing to investigate and expand their efforts to identify other individuals involved in this cross-border drug trafficking network.
