By Bridie Adams

A 33-year-old man from Hereford, Ashley White, has been sentenced after damaging a police van and possessing a knife in a public place. White appeared at Hereford Magistrates’ Court on July 2, where he was handed a community order and a £50 fine for carrying a Stanley knife into the Asda supermarket.

White, of Pomona Place, Hereford, had previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a police van, valued under £5,000, and possessing a knife blade in a public place. The incident occurred on January 16, when White was caught with the knife in Asda and was later found to have caused damage to a police van. Prosecutors described his actions as “reckless,” as he had no lawful reason for carrying the weapon.

As part of his sentence, White will attend rehabilitation activities for up to 20 days over the next 18 months. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
