Asansol Student Abhishek Shaw Arrested for Bank Fraud

In a recent case of bank fraud, Abhishek Shaw, a 24-year-old college student from Asansol, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a scheme that duped a private company in Bowbazar out of Rs14.08 lakh. The police traced Shaw through a mule account linked to a bank in Durgapur.

Shaw, along with four accomplices, is accused of making unauthorized transactions and transferring money to multiple mule accounts. The investigation began after the owner of the affected company filed a complaint in May, revealing the unauthorized transfers.

During the inquiry, police discovered that the money was funneled into five separate bank accounts and then further distributed. One of these accounts was opened by Mohammad Shahid, who was approached by Shaw and his associates.

The police tracked Shaw down in Kestopur on Tuesday night, arresting him alongside Shabbir Alam, 24, from Munger district in Bihar. Two others, Roopesh Kumar, 27, from Muzaffarpur, and Amrit Chatterjee, 22, from Asansol, were also apprehended for arranging the mule accounts. The fifth suspect, 19-year-old Abhijit Prasad, is also from Asansol.

As of Wednesday, police have recovered Rs7.50 lakh of the stolen funds. The investigation continues as authorities seek to dismantle the entire operation.
