Arrests Made in Charlotte Bus Shooting, Jaheim Boone and Paris Lewis-Bynum Charged

Charlotte, N.C. – A 23-year-old man, Jaheim Boone, has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that targeted a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus, injuring two students on Monday. Boone appeared in court on Friday, facing charges of three counts of intent to kill and seven counts of shooting into an occupied moving vehicle. A judge denied him bond.

Boone is accused of firing a Glock 45 9mm handgun into the bus, which was carrying children, according to court documents. The shooting stemmed from a drug deal and a “turf” dispute, with additional details revealing the violent nature of the incident.

Two students from Albemarle Road Middle School sustained injuries from shattered glass when the bullet struck a window as the bus traveled along East W.T. Harris Blvd. near Albemarle Road.

CMPD also arrested 21-year-old Joshua Woods, charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony conspiracy. Woods remains in jail.

The shooting occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Monday when officers responded to a reported shooting on W.T. Harris Boulevard. A juvenile, who was part of a group buying marijuana, reported that their car had been shot into. The juvenile was hospitalized with cuts from the shattered glass.

Police found an Infiniti Q50 with bullet holes and broken windows nearby, which matched the description of the vehicle involved in the incident. The juvenile revealed that he had been picked up earlier in the day by a man known as “Marquise,” later identified as 20-year-old Paris Lewis-Bynum.

The juvenile reported that after Lewis-Bynum stopped at a Dollar General on Albemarle Road, he argued with a person in a white car, leading to a shootout. The juvenile, seeking safety, ran toward a school bus for help. Multiple students were treated for injuries from broken glass, while nearby gunfire struck a church, though no one was injured there.

Investigators reviewed body camera footage from a previous incident involving Lewis-Bynum and identified him as the suspect. He was arrested on Wednesday and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Lewis-Bynum is accused of using a stolen rifle to defend drug territory, firing shots that damaged the school bus. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 9.

CMPD also arrested 21-year-old Lamarius Ramel Anthony, who was in the other vehicle involved in the incident. Anthony faces charges of felony possession of cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon, with a $9,000 bond. The juvenile who initially spoke with officers was taken into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle.
