Arrest Warrants Issued Against Sheikh Hasina, Key Officials

Dhaka, Jan 6 (Dhaka Tribune): The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for 11 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her former defense adviser Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, and former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed. The warrants are related to allegations of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings that have reportedly occurred over the past 15 years.

The tribunal, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, made the ruling following a plea presented by Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam. In addition to these key figures, the ICT also ordered the arrest of Major General (sacked) Ziaul Ahsan, who is already incarcerated in connection with other cases, and directed that he be shown arrested and presented on February 12.

Victims and their families, who have suffered due to the alleged enforced disappearances, were present during the proceedings at the tribunal. The arrests are a significant step in the ongoing efforts to address the issues of human rights abuses in Bangladesh.
