A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for Shakib Al Hasan, former Bangladesh cricket captain and current Awami League MP, over bounced cheques related to his agro business. The legal action stems from Shakib’s failure to comply with court orders connected to a case filed by IFIC Bank. The cheques, reportedly dishonoured in October 2024, were linked to Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm, a venture he established in 2016.
Along with Shakib, Gazi Shahagir Hossain, managing director of the farm, also faces an arrest warrant for failing to respond to court summons. Despite two company officials surrendering in court, Shakib’s continued absence has raised questions. Currently residing in the United States, Shakib has not returned to Bangladesh, citing safety concerns amid political turmoil in the country.
Shakib’s agro business, which has been inactive since 2021, continues to attract attention due to the ongoing legal challenges. His absence from public life and his recent political role as an MP have added to the complexities surrounding the case.
