SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Authorities have arrested one suspect in connection with the fatal Walgreens robbery that occurred on January 22. Detectives are still actively searching for the second suspect and are seeking public assistance in locating him.
On January 25, the Shreveport Police Department provided an update on their investigation into the deadly robbery, in which pharmaceutical delivery driver Billy Jamison, 67, was shot and killed. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed the impact of the crime on the community, calling it “a calculated and heinous crime.” He praised the Violent Crimes Unit and the public’s cooperation for helping make progress in the investigation.
Detectives believe Kelvin Lewis is the suspect who fired the fatal shots during the robbery. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and Lewis was taken into custody in Arlington, Texas, on January 24, for unrelated violent offense charges. The Arlington Police Department released surveillance footage showing both Lewis and Kevin Bivens, who was arrested in a separate Shreveport shooting on January 7.
Authorities continue to search for Larry Dewayne Lewis, 44, who is believed to have been involved in the Walgreens robbery. Shreveport Police say he may still be in the local area, but tips from other regions are also being investigated. Lewis has an extensive criminal record with multiple gun and drug charges.
Shreveport detectives have vowed to hold all responsible individuals accountable, and additional arrests may follow as the investigation progresses.
Mayor Tom Arceneaux commended the swift actions of the Shreveport Police Department in responding to the case. “Our hearts go out to the families and friends who are mourning these tragic losses. We stand with you during this difficult time and remain committed to ensuring justice and accountability,” Arceneaux said.
