MEMPHIS, TN – Nearly ten years after Army Sergeant Calvin Wilhite, Jr. was tragically murdered, Memphis Police have made a significant breakthrough in the cold case. Authorities arrested 33-year-old Timothy Davis in connection with the 2015 murder following a tip last spring.
Police say the tip, combined with evidence gathered over the years, led them to Davis as a suspect. Wilhite’s family, who have been seeking justice for nearly a decade, expressed immense relief and overwhelming emotions after hearing the news of the arrest.
“Every day I’m waking up like am I going to get that phone call,” said Valerie Henderson, Wilhite’s mother, as she shared the emotional toll over the years. She added, “Justice is coming real soon.”
Wilhite, who had survived a tour in Iraq, was tragically gunned down in his hometown of Memphis. Despite the years that passed, his family never gave up hope. “So many times I wanted to give up the emotional risk, but no, God gave me the strength to keep going,” said Henderson, praising the resilience of her entire family.
The tip that led to Davis’s arrest came in spring 2024, and police employed both new technology and traditional investigative methods to identify him. Davis is now facing second-degree murder charges.
For Wilhite’s mother, hearing the news was an emotional moment: “Oh, my gosh. Overwhelmed, overexcited. Just I couldn’t believe it. After almost ten years, they finally had an arrest.”
Henderson also shared a message of hope for other families still seeking justice, encouraging them to remain patient and persistent: “Please don’t give up. Look at me. We made it through. This is just the beginning. More arrests, I’m sure, will be made.”
