Arnoldo Jimenez Arrested for 2012 Murder of Wife Estrella Carrera

In 2012, less than 48 hours after her wedding, Estrella Carrera was found dead in the bathtub of her Illinois apartment, still wearing her wedding dress. She had been stabbed more than a dozen times.

A judge in Cook County, Illinois, issued an arrest warrant for her newlywed husband, Arnoldo Jimenez, shortly after her death at their Burbank home. Jimenez, however, vanished, and for almost 13 years, he remained on the run.

This past Friday, the FBI announced that Jimenez, who had been one of the agency’s 10 Most Wanted fugitives, was captured in Monterrey, Mexico. Jimenez is now in custody in connection with Carrera’s tragic and “gruesome” killing.

“The FBI and Burbank Police Department were determined to bring justice for Estrella Carrera and her family,” said Burbank Police Department Deputy Chief William Casey in a statement following the arrest.
