Mae Sai, Chiang Rai – A young couple has been arrested in Mae Sai for allegedly running an illegal online gambling operation. Anuthai, known as Golf Las Vegas, 25, and his 22-year-old girlfriend, Phon, were detained by officers from the Technology Crime Suppression Division (PCT Region 5) and local authorities. Their arrest followed a raid conducted under a court-issued search warrant.
The operation was led by Police Major General Worapong Kamleu of PCT Region 5, in collaboration with Police Major General Manop Senakoon of Chiang Rai and Police Lieutenant Colonel Watchara Tuekta. The couple faces charges under the Gambling Act B.E. 2478, Section 12, for operating and promoting illegal gambling activities.
Authorities had received intelligence indicating illicit online gambling activities in Chiang Rai province. Investigations pointed to a residential property in Mae Sai as the base of operations. Following the search warrant, police raided the property and found significant evidence of gambling activity.
Anuthai and Phon admitted to managing the online gambling platform, which reportedly generated over 100,000 baht (approximately USD 2,915) in monthly transactions. The large scale of financial activity raised concerns about the website’s influence and reach.
During the raid, police seized multiple items, including desktop computers and mobile phones, believed to have been used in the operation. These items are now crucial to the ongoing investigation. After their arrest, the couple was taken into custody for further questioning and legal action.
