Antonio Navarrete, 23, was sentenced to 17 to 20 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of 25-year-old Cortaevius Williams in Cheyenne.
Navarrete initially faced charges of first-degree murder after the shooting on March 23, 2024. However, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, leading to his sentencing on Monday.
The incident began with a dispute outside a local bar, where Williams allegedly smashed the windshield of Navarrete’s vehicle. Both men left separately, but later that night, Williams visited Navarrete’s home to retrieve personal items. Another argument broke out, and Navarrete fatally shot Williams during the confrontation.
Police arrived at the scene early in the morning, finding Williams with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Navarrete was arrested hours later and originally faced charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault. Following a plea agreement, he was sentenced to between 17 and 20 years in prison for manslaughter.
