Wheeling Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery at Gumby’s

Andrew Mitchell Oates, 33, of Wheeling, has been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery that took place earlier this month at Gumby’s on National Road in Woodsdale. The Wheeling Police Department confirmed the arrest on the second-degree robbery charge.

According to police, Oates entered the restaurant around 8:30 p.m. on March 9, handed an employee a note demanding money, and attempted to rob them. However, Oates fled the scene shortly afterward, and fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

Oates was arrested and taken to the Northern Regional Jail where he is awaiting a court arraignment. The case remains under investigation.
