BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – Investigators have arrested 31-year-old Andres Eloy Martinez Perez in connection to the murder of 37-year-old Gaudy Garcia Pina, whose remains were discovered in Boulder County in September.
Garcia Pina, a citizen of Venezuela who had been living in Denver, was reported missing on July 15. The two were in a relationship at the time of her disappearance.
On September 24, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding human remains found in the 1000 block of Blue Mountain Road, northwest of Lyons in unincorporated Boulder County. Initial investigations revealed the cause of death to be suspicious.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office estimated the victim’s age and physical characteristics, leading investigators to cross-reference missing person reports from across the state. Though comparisons to missing persons and clothing descriptions could not conclusively identify the remains, DNA evidence from a family member of Garcia Pina provided a breakthrough. Using Rapid DNA technology from ANDE Corporation, the identification was confirmed on Tuesday.
Perez was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail on charges of first-degree murder and domestic violence.
