Anambra Police Arrest Two Cultists with Weapons and Drugs

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in cultism and armed robbery, seizing weapons and other illegal items during the operation.

The suspects, identified as Okechukwu Chinwuko, 27, and Ezenwa Chinedu, 22, were arrested by the Anti-Cultism Squad on Saturday, December 7, 2024, following a raid on a notorious black spot in Umunaga Village, located in the Njikoka Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed reliable intelligence gathered by the operatives. During the raid, the police seized a pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances believed to be hard drugs. In addition to these items, two female victims who had been forcibly abused by the suspects were rescued.

The suspects are currently being interrogated to gather more details about their operations, and further updates will be provided in due course.

In a separate operation on the same day, police officers from the Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Police Headquarters recovered a white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus (Reg No. AKL 896 XB) and a roller. These items were abandoned by hoodlums who had been vandalizing a Lister electricity generator at the MTN mast near Saint Martin’s Catholic Church in Umudege. Upon seeing the police, the criminals fled the scene.

The police have launched efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and are urging residents of the area to assist by providing any relevant information.
