Amritsar Police Bust Major Drug Cartel, Arrest Dharminder Singh with 8.08 Kg Heroin

In a significant breakthrough against the international narcotics network, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has arrested a major drug smuggler, Dharminder Singh, alias Sonu, from the village of Harsha Chhena in Amritsar. The arrest came after a well-coordinated operation that led to the recovery of 8.08 kg of heroin, a .30 bore pistol, and five cartridges. Additionally, the police impounded the car used by Singh to deliver drug consignments.

The operation, carried out by police teams under the supervision of DCP, Investigation, Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu, ADCP, Investigation, Navjot Singh, and ACP, North, Kamaljit Singh, was initiated based on a tip-off. Singh was apprehended near the Mental Hospital in Amritsar on March 17, while he was waiting to deliver the drug consignment.

The arrest is a major blow to the international drug cartel, with authorities now working to trace the backward and forward linkages in this drug network. Investigations are underway to identify the suppliers, dealers, and buyers involved, as well as to determine the total quantity of drugs that Singh and his network have distributed. A case has been registered under Sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the Majitha Road police station in Amritsar.

This seizure underscores the ongoing efforts by the Amritsar Police to dismantle drug networks and curb the growing narcotics trade in the region. Further investigations are being conducted to unravel the full extent of the drug operations.
