Amos Wanjala Mutelwa Sentenced to 30 Years for Ex-Wife’s Murder

NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 10 — Amos Wanjala Mutelwa has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering his 24-year-old ex-wife in 2018.

The sentencing, handed down by Kibera High Court on Tuesday, followed the presentation of evidence by Prosecuting Counsel Peris Maina. Five witnesses, including one eyewitness, recounted the details leading up to the tragic event.

The prosecution revealed that Mutelwa had learned his ex-wife, the deceased, was planning to marry her new boyfriend. In response, he contacted her and demanded the return of gifts he had given her during their relationship. When she hesitated, a quarrel erupted, and Mutelwa fatally stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

After the attack, Mutelwa fled the scene but was apprehended by a crowd that responded to the victim’s cries for help.
