Several leaders of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) lost their valuables on Monday during a rally for party chief Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit Thackeray, who filed his nomination from the Mahim seat for the upcoming Assembly elections. The police arrested two members of a gang from Telangana, who had come to Mumbai specifically to steal valuables during political rallies.
The incidents occurred as MNS leaders and workers, accompanied by Amit Thackeray, traveled from Siddhivinayak Temple via Agar Bazaar to D’Silva School in Dadar West for the nomination filing. The first complaint was lodged by Sanket Dhanu, 36, an MNS leader from Mahim.
Dhanu realized his 10-gram gold chain was missing while traveling towards the D’Silva School. Another MNS leader, Ninad Pawar, 34, also reported the theft of his gold chain. With over 4,000 party workers gathered at the location, the crowd provided the perfect cover for the thieves.
Dhanu stated, “While moving through the crowd, someone snatched our gold chains.” He and other workers managed to catch two suspects, who were handed over to the police.
The arrested individuals, Sinu Kamble and Sunil Hatagade, both hailing from Andhra Pradesh, are part of a gang that traveled from Hyderabad to Mumbai. The police confirmed that while the suspects were caught, other gang members managed to escape with the stolen valuables. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the remaining members.
