The CIA-1 unit of the Ambala police arrested three men and seized 260 grams of heroin worth approximately Rs2 crore. The accused have been identified as Suraj, Chetan, and Raj Kumar, all residents of Ambala Cantonment.
The police arrested Suraj and Chetan on July 30. Their subsequent disclosures led to the arrest of Raj Kumar on August 1. A case was registered at the Parao police station.
According to Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria, the arrests were made following a tip-off. The CIA-1 unit intercepted the suspects on the Ambala-Shahabad highway on July 30, recovering 260 grams of heroin with a market value of about Rs2 crore. The accused were produced in court on July 31, where Suraj was sent to two-day police remand and Chetan was sent to judicial custody. During his remand, Suraj revealed Raj Kumar’s involvement in the operation, leading to his arrest on August 1. All three were again produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
It was also revealed that Raj Kumar, who already faced 11 criminal cases, had been supplied the heroin by Suraj and Chetan.
Over the past month, the police have made significant drug-related arrests. They registered seven cases involving commercial quantities of drugs, recovering over 3 kg of opium, over 230 kg of chura post, 260 grams of heroin, 12,248 intoxicating capsules, and 1,125 intoxicating tablets. In total, the police have recovered over 233 kg of drugs, with a market value exceeding Rs3.40 crore.
SP Bhoria reiterated the department’s continuous efforts to dismantle the drug trafficking network in the district and urged the public to share information about drug smugglers to assist in combating the issue.
