CUMBERLAND, Md. — A woman arrested in Cumberland for a stolen vehicle was found to have provided a false identity and was later discovered to be wanted in New Jersey, police reported on Wednesday.
On Monday at 10:44 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a business on the first block of N. Wineow Street. The vehicle was located, confirmed to be stolen, and the suspects were detained with help from the business staff.
One of the arrestees initially identified herself as Megan Duffy but was later found to be Amanda Elizabeth Francis, 38, of Neptune, N.J. Further investigation revealed an active arrest warrant from the New Jersey State Parole Board for Francis.
At this time, it is uncertain whether New Jersey will request her extradition.
Francis, who is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center, faces several charges including unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft between $25,000 and $100,000, possession of drug paraphernalia, fraud to avoid prosecution, and making a false statement. She appeared before a District Court Commissioner and was placed on temporary commitment.
