After a 16-month investigation, officers at the Ikoyi Police Station in Lagos have arrested Alice Udey, a 33-year-old woman accused of stealing over $60,000 worth of jewelry from her employer. Udey vanished less than 24 hours into her job as a maid, leading to an extensive search.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, Udey used multiple aliases to secure her position before executing the theft. Police investigators noted that her actions indicated a “well-orchestrated scheme” involving fake identities and targeted attacks on affluent homes.
A senior police official, who spoke anonymously, explained that this case points to an organized ring where individuals gain employment as domestic staff to rob their employers. The police are now intensifying their efforts to apprehend other members of this syndicate.
The breakthrough in this case came after months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by the police, highlighting their commitment to addressing this form of crime in the region.
