Alexis Mariano De Leon, a 28-year-old Dominican national, pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Bangor for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation that transported drugs from Massachusetts to Maine, as announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine.
De Leon, who also goes by Leon Leon, was charged with two counts related to drug trafficking. Court records reveal that between August 2023 and June 2024, De Leon and his co-conspirators transported fentanyl from Massachusetts for distribution in the Bangor area.
Investigators found that De Leon used a Facebook account, along with other methods, to coordinate the fentanyl shipments. In June 2024, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with support from the Maine State Police, conducted a traffic stop near Pittsfield. The stop resulted in the seizure of over one kilogram of fentanyl from De Leon’s vehicle. Authorities also recovered additional evidence, including a press used for compressing powder into bricks, from his residence in Massachusetts.
De Leon now faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison, a maximum fine of $10 million, and a term of five years to life on supervised release. A federal district judge will determine his final sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The investigation was led by the DEA, with assistance from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine State Police.
