by Amelia Crawford

Grand County deputies arrested 35-year-old Alexis Lanier after a dramatic 40-mile chase through Colorado on Friday, which ended when she crashed into a snowbank near Steamboat Springs. The pursuit began when Lanier, evading police in Kremmling, sped off after allegedly attempting to sell stolen tools to a contractor.

The chase reached speeds of up to 90 mph over Rabbit Ears Pass, with deputies using various tactics to stop her, including attempts to flatten her tires. Despite these efforts, Lanier continued to flee, ignoring traffic signals and running stop signs along the way.

Lanier’s car, which had worn-out tires, ultimately lost control near Steamboat Springs, sending her into a snowbank, where she was arrested. Lanier is facing multiple charges, including felony eluding, DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities are investigating any prior transactions involving stolen tools and are seeking information from those who may have interacted with Lanier earlier in the day. Lanier, with a criminal record of multiple arrests in the Denver area, is scheduled for court appearance on Monday.

Grand County Sheriff Brett Schroetlin criticized the reckless behavior, emphasizing the danger it posed to the community.
