Shane Collins, a newly elected councilman in Alexandria, Kentucky, is facing domestic violence and criminal mischief charges following an alleged altercation with his wife at the end of January. Collins, who also chairs the city’s safety committee, was arrested on January 31 after police responded to a call about a domestic dispute at his home.
According to the incident report, Collins’ wife told officers that the couple had been arguing about Collins’ alleged infidelity. During the confrontation, she claimed Collins grabbed her shirt and forcefully pulled her to the ground. The altercation reportedly occurred while Collins was under the influence of alcohol.
The councilman was arrested and taken to the Campbell County Detention Center. He was released the following day after posting a $500 bond, with an order to have no contact with his wife.
Collins, who declined to comment on the situation when contacted by The Enquirer, stated that the charges against him would be dropped during a court appearance scheduled for March 6.
