Ahmednagar Police Arrest Five in ₹50 Lakh Daylight Robbery

The Ahmednagar police have successfully apprehended five out of ten suspects involved in a daring robbery that netted Rs50 lakh from traders Shoibh Sayyad and his brother Sameer Sayyad on September 9.

Among the arrested is Mubarak Attar, a former employee of the Sayyad brothers, who allegedly masterminded the heist in collaboration with another accomplice and eight others. The incident unfolded as Shoibh and Sameer were traveling to the Nepti onion market, where they were attacked and robbed. Sameer sustained head injuries during the assault and required hospitalization.

The shocking daylight robbery has rattled the local traders’ community and farmers who frequent the market for agricultural transactions. In response, senior Ahmednagar police officials, including Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola and Additional Superintendent of Police Prashant Khaire, visited the crime scene to assess the situation.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage that captured two bikers trailing the Sayyad brothers from their home to the robbery site. Through this footage, the identities of the suspects, hailing from Rahuri taluka in Ahmednagar, were revealed.

Local Crime Branch (LCB) inspector Dinesh Aher reported that the ten suspects were attempting to regroup in the Vilad Ghat area to distribute the stolen money when police intervened and arrested five of them. The remaining suspects managed to evade capture.

Further inquiries disclosed that suspects Nagesh Chavan and Mubarak Attar, who were previously acquainted, had conspired together. Attar, utilizing his prior work experience with the Sayyad brothers, informed Chavan about Shoibh’s habit of carrying large sums of cash. The duo conducted reconnaissance over two days (September 5 and 6) to determine the brothers’ route to the onion market, paving the way for their criminal act.
