In a significant drug bust, Gujarat Police arrested a man, identified as Yogesh Patel, in Ahmedabad’s Vatva area with 12 kg of hybrid ganja, valued at Rs 3.6 crore. The arrest was made during a routine vehicle check on December 16, as Patel was en route to Morbi.
Patel, a resident of Morbi, admitted to smuggling the contraband from Thailand after traveling there on December 14. He returned to Mumbai on December 16 before being apprehended by Ahmedabad Police. Patel told investigators that he had been instructed by two women, Nidhi and Sayli, whom he met six months ago in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. The women allegedly promised him Rs 70,000 for bringing the ganja into India.
During questioning, Patel also named another individual, Pritam, who was reportedly involved in the same smuggling operation. Police are now focusing on how the ganja passed through airport security undetected and have coordinated with Mumbai authorities to track the smuggling route.
Senior officials confirmed that Patel had not yet received the promised payment, as it was contingent upon successfully delivering the drugs. Authorities are now working to verify Patel’s statements, trace the women’s involvement, and investigate further members of the smuggling racket.
