In a major breakthrough, the Ahmedabad police arrested Parth Kamlesh Doshi, an international bookie and key accused in the Rs 2300 crore cricket betting scam, on Thursday night. Doshi was detained at Amritsar Airport, following a Look-Out Circular (LOC) issued by the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of Gujarat. He was en route from Dubai, where he had been running the illegal betting operation.
Gujarat police were informed about Doshi’s detention on Friday, after which a team of SMC officials rushed to Amritsar and brought him to Ahmedabad. The court later granted the police a four-day custody of Doshi for further interrogation.
According to SMC sources, this arrest marks a significant step in dismantling the large-scale cricket betting racket. So far, 35 individuals have been arrested in connection with the scam, including Doshi. Investigations revealed that Doshi had provided the master ID for the betting application to Dhaval Patel, another arrested accused, in exchange for a 15% commission.
Doshi had fled to Dubai in 2018, remaining elusive until he made a brief visit to India in 2023. Since then, he had been on the run. The Gujarat police have been working tirelessly to track down key figures involved in this massive illegal betting operation.
The arrest of Doshi is expected to lead to further revelations about the scope of the betting network and its connections to organized crime in the cricket world. The Gujarat police and SMC continue their investigation to apprehend other suspects and recover the illegal earnings from the racket.
